VJ and Animationworkshop @ BEK (Bergen Elektronisk Kunstsenter) from monday 7th of June - friday 11th June.
This is an open workshop for people who are interested in learning VJ-ing, and/or working with video, generating
your own videomaterial.
No technical experience is required, we will work both digital and analogue and give an introduction in various
forms of VJ-ing and various techniques that can be used; from mixing tapes to using your computer to mix visuals.
We want to challenge participants of the VJ/Animationworkshop to work with a low resolution, a limited amount of colors and frames. It would be possible for instance to use filmed material which can be modified, dithered or color reduced. We will investigate how this can be achieved; it could
e made on real "oldschool" computers such as msx,c64,amiga,atari etc.(or using emulators on a pc or mac) in the form of animations, generating the source material in photoshop, corel draw or using footage from the net and making GIF animations.
We will use various resources on the net to get an idea of what kind of graphics can be made as well as looking at veejay tapes, demos from the demoscene etc. The main focus of the workshop will be mainly on the esthetical side of how to create and modify visual material and to
use visuals for livepurposes. We will also teach the participants how to work with a video mixer and give an elaborate introduction about veejaying. We will show various techniques and look at the various possibilities that a VJ has when he/she is performing live ( veejaying with just tapes, dvd's, video cd's or using software to mix and alter avi's,mpegs etc.). The participants will learn in a couple of days how veejays work by
1) preparing source material and
2) using this in a live mix.
Apart from that, we will also teach practical concepts concerning vj-ing like how to get started, what the basic equipment should consist of, the relationship between music and visuals, and a more personal view on veejaying in general based on experience of the vj - courseleader |
